Plant Care App with AI Helper
Overview
Pot is a mobile app for identifying plants and keeping them alive — mobile-first, AI-native, built end to end by a small team over a couple of months.
My role
Product designer, 2026. I worked alongside the design/product lead, who set the product direction and vision; my focus was the design itself.
Brief
A small team — a design/product lead, a developer, and a marketer — took Pot from idea to a shippable mobile product in about two months. The lead set the direction and the product calls; I partnered on the design, contributing across the core screens, the AI assistant, and the component kit that holds them together.
Product
Scan a plant, learn what it needs, drop it in your garden — in light and dark.
AI assistant
Prof. Pot — the cactus-mascot chatbot — diagnoses common problems from a few short questions.
Audience
Urban plant owners who want care reminders without a textbook.
System
End-to-end flow, a small component kit, and a deliberately restrained brand.
Alternatives considered
- Bury the AI as passive inline tipsCare advice tucked into the UI as hints gets ignored. A named assistant — Prof. Pot — that asks a few short questions diagnoses the actual problem and gives the product a voice.
- Identify by searching a plant databaseA name-search catalog assumes you already know the plant. Camera-first scanning matches the real moment: point the phone at something you can’t name.
- A one-time purchase instead of a subscriptionA one-time unlock can’t fund ongoing AI calls and recurring care reminders — the value is recurring, so the model is too.
